Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — First Blood

Growing up I watched all the action movies of the 80s and 90s. I saw first blood pt2 and Rambo 3 but I never saw the first one until now on Netflix lol.
I was expecting it to be like the others and be the typical Rambo outing where he takes on an army. It was actually really good! I found myself into the movie the whole time. Aside from a couple of cheesy 80s lines from the cops in the woods "we're not huntin him, he's huntin us.", it's pretty good.
Im surprised when I find an old hidden gem that's been sitting around for over 3 decades.
    Great film!

Yes. For me this is the best entry in the franchise. It would be a great stand alone movie with no sequels.

If the sequels didn't exist. This would be revered like a more action Deer Hunter.

Hey TC, you should read the book. It's really good too.

I agree, but do NOT read the author's not at the beginning.

This was the best of the Rambo series. It had its shoot-em-up bloody moments, but it was still a great story with an all-star cast.

This film is not a hidden gem that has been sitting around. It's been shown on TV many many times. It has always been available on any format from VHS to Blu-ray.

I was 9 when First Blood came out so I didn't see it until 84 or 85 once we were renting videos from the rental stores. Loved it then and love it now. It's awesome.

Same here. The Rambo movies are childhood movies for me and I haven't seen them since then. I remember them as over-the-top solo action movies like Commando and Predator. I just finished watching First Blood and I'm pleasently surprised how it's none of those things and how well it holds up. The ending speech moved me.
