Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Don't Go to Sleep

    sylvia67 — 14 years ago(November 28, 2011 05:25 PM)

I am a late shift worker right now, and today as i was getting ready to go to sleep, i remembered this movie i saw when I was 15 called Dont go to sleep. lol
It is been a long time of course since i have seen this film, (I just saw a clip on youtube, it has been uploaded there) it did stick with me years later, they dont make tv movies like they used to in the 80s, good stories and good production values..
Anyway, i would like some opinions
do you think Jennifer was really appearing to Mary (I always thought she was until i read some opinions on here that she wasnt, had not thought of that angle)Or was it just Mary's feelings of guilt that made her think this.. did the mother feel guilty as well on some level
Or, i read one thought on here that Jennifer's ghost was actually an evil spirit that was not jennifer at all and was trying to destroy the family..
    any thoughts

My theory: It was Jennifer all along. She manipulated Mary into doing the killings to leave her implicated in the deaths of Grandma, Kevin, and Dad. It was her revenge to get back at her for letting he die in the car accident. Jennifer left Mary alone in the hospital to go back home to her Mom, and my thought now is that Laura (Mom), having lost a daughter a year ago, her mom a month ago, her son a week ago, and her husband a few hours ago, and being left with the idea that Mary did all this, weakened her defenses and broke her totally. She was given an anti-depressant, which inadvertently lowered her defenses even more. That's when Jennifer struck, causing Laura to die of sheer fright.
Plus, think about it. Grandma got Dad tanked up with "One more for the road", impairing his driving. He foolishly got behind the wheel. Laura could have said she will drive instead, but didn't. Mary and Kevin tied Jennifer's shoelaces together. When the accident occurred, Mary shut the car door in her face, leaving her trapped. So, in her mind, the whole family played a part in her death.
After all this was said and done, Mary was left with the worst punishment of all: having no family (or anyone) to go back to, even if she was released, and being forever made out to look like she was incompetent and unhinged.
My guess would be that Mary would be living out the rest of her life in a halfway house (if she was released) and live with the guilt of letting her sister die. She'd also have to live with the fact that no one will ever believe her when she says that Jennifer made her do the killings.
