Neither is my favorite, but I would say THE BURNING is the more entertaining of the two.

The killer is wearing a WW2 outfit it's not stolen or anything. (spoiler) He is the guy that got dumped while at war so when he came back he got his revenge on Rosemary now when they hold the dance again after 30 years it sets him off again. If you paid attention you would have easily seen why he wears the outfit.
Also I am a fan of both films but the Prowler is my 2nd favorite slasher behind the original Elm Street. -

I love both, but THE BURNING is better.
Without the gore effects, THE PROWLER may not have been as great.

Definitely the Burning.
I found much of the Prowler to be pretty standard fare. Not bad, just nothing extraordinary.
I'm also a big fan of summer camp type films.

The Prowler. I've never particularly cared for The Burning, apart from a couple of excellent murder set-pieces. The ending is particularly sloppy, where they use a still shot of the killer on (I believe) multiple occasions after his face is revealed.
I find the entirety of The Prowler to be spooky and full of intensity. It's a better made film in general.

The Burning
is a top slasher,
The Prowler
is dull, scatterbrained junk.

One thing I'm learning is not to trust slasher fans. Both of these movies stink, but I thought
The Prowler
was slightly less embarrassing even though the physical setting isn't very interesting. I really don't get the fuss over these two films, they're both boring as hell aside from the kills (which
The Prowler
excels in).
