Just from my own perspective, I find the Prowler to be a superior film to My Bloody Valentine, a film often compared to and confused with the Prowler. Both feature masked antagonists with breathing apparatus, some spectacular kills, and some convoluted reasonings by the towns folk. In the case of the Prowler, having a dance after suspending it for some 30 plus years, while in MBV, having a dance after suspending it for some 20 plus years. Both turn out to be extremely ill timed.

MBV does have a more clever story, but it is hardly more suspenseful. The editing and music in The Prowler are superb. The suspense is drown out well, and there are several good jolt scares.
An uncut MBV might trump The Prowler in terms of gore - that guy being dragged along the ground with a pick through his face Ouch! We'll never know unless an uncut version is released.
In any case, I like them both, but The Prowler scared me more. -

As far as I am concern, My Bloody Valentine is much better!!
To be quite honest, The Prowler is one of my least favorite slasher of that area! It's boring and the characters are badly written.
Sorry guys

MBV overall has better story, much higher bodycount, better characters (sorry, but I love Canadian flicks, they always have more humane characters then American, which are usually archtypes), pace is also lot better.
Prowler on the other hand has insane FX, I recently watch both movies in fact, and you'll be amazed how well those effects in The Prowler hold up. They still look quite realistic and quite brutal. It's probably best Savini work till this day. Deaths are much more brutal in The Prowler alto MBV is fairly gory and brutal itself. But The Prowler had pace troubles, it really slows down in some parts. Yeah, Zito tried to do some atmosphere, but screenplay was simply not meant for that. It should have moved in much much faster pace, so some scenes where he tries to setup mood just don't work, they drag. -

Now that the uncut version of My Bloody Valentine is out, what do you think? I loved the gore additions and I think it strengthened the movie a lot.

About the only area I find The Prowler superior to My Bloody Valentine is the editing department. The editing and music cues make the film scarier than MBV, but MBV's atmosphere more than makes up for any of the other shortcomings. The gore in the Prowler overwhelms everything else. Give me My Bloody Valentine anyday.

I think the Prowler has far better pacing, acting, gore (although I have not seen the uncut version of My Bloody Valentine). I found My Bloody Valentine a real struggle to get through (took me a few sittings) but had no issues with The Prowler

MBV is good, much better than I thought it was when I first saw it, but The Prowler is superb, easily one of the best early 80s slashers. I don't really understand the need to compare the two of them, they both stand on their own as really good to excellent examples of the genre, and both should be championed by fans, not compared to see who is the better of the two, they're both good!
