This film is a nice showcase of the range of Sean Connery.
We might think Connery is meant only to play 'stable' roles such as James Bond or King Arthur, but in this film, we see why film-makers would want to cast him in offbeat roles such as a thief or a member of The Untouchables or as the fabled Green Knight or even a military-man working as a detective (
    The Presidio
    ).
I really like the under-appreciated Peter Boyle in this (you might know him from offbeat roles in
    Taxi Driver
    and
    Young Frankenstein
). Boyle plays the space outpost's leering general manager trying to 'control' all the profits.
The visual detailing rivals the work of George Lucas and IMO, the film editing creates much comfy room for scenery interpretation.
    While
    Outland
is not as symbolic/important/praised as other atmospheric films such as George Lucas's
    Willow
    or Peter Weir's
    Gallipoli
, it certainly celebrates the magic of film-making, which is why it's a wise-man's Blu-ray purchase for Christmas 2016.
In conclusion, the best way to talk about
    Outland
is simply to talk about 'film-flow.'
