Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — The Cannonball Run

    BigJimJosophat — 18 years ago(November 03, 2007 04:17 AM)

politically correct climate; drinking all day in The Cannonballers' Bar all day before the race, Jamie Blake being 50 times over the limit at the start of the race; Bradshaw and Mel Tillis loading up the trunk and whole back seat with 24-packs, and Seymour drinking Champagne while driving
this movie wouldn't get passed the anally retentive sensors

I totally agree.. plus the "chocolate monk" reference would have Al Sharpton's panties all up in a bunch! Too bad.. its all good fun and people are just too nutty these days. I guess it is why comedies like this are just never made anymore.

That is why I say they do not make good movies like they use to. Now a days everyone worries that it will upset this group of people, that minority group, or anyone else.
That is why I say if you are not going to like it then why watch it you know. Even the military has changed since I went through basic training for the Navy. Now they worry about hurting the persons feelings and cannot single them out when that recruit or sailor has done something wrong.
When I was stationed at Great Lakes back in 2001 until 2003 a lot of the sailors that I was stationed with there at the Naval base said that you cannot call a sailr Ricky Recruit because it is considered "PC" to the Puerto Ricans.
I think now a days things are all screwed up ever since we have gone Politically correctness. I am just being honest and truthful about it which is very true.

Yep, imagine that, I saw his film when I was in my early teens and yet I didn't grow up to be a racist, beer-swillin' psycho.
People are far too sensitive about everything now.

              No.
There's nothing wrong with being sensitive.
You can be sensitive without being politically correct, or without wanting to restrict humor or freedom.
Sensitivity is when you can sense/see/hear/feel something very delicate that would normally not be noticed all that well.
You can even be sensitive in the sense of "hurt easily", but you can still conntrol your actions, and if you do that, you can allow others to make whatever jokes they want.
I'd say people are not too sensitive, but too WORRIED and REACTING TOO MUCH these days. They should just relax and let live (and joke). I think the world would be a better place if EVERYONE could be made fun of, not JUST the white, heterosexual men.
This includes, but is not necessarily limited to; women, black people, asian people, midgets, dwarves, elves, the elderly, polacks, kids, sttupid people, retarded people, mongoloids, crippled people, shell-shocked people, crazy people, sane people, all age groups, american people, european people, asian people, scandinavian people, australian people, pet owners, cigarette smokers, drunkards, drug users, WoW players, moviemakers, institutional murderers, so-called 'transsexual' people, (no such thing as 'transgender' anyway - your brain is either wired 'male' or 'female', and you can't change it, but you can find out by scanning, which it is), homosexual people (lesbians and gays) AND SO ON..
If all these (and more) were made fun of and spewn hatred against as much as nowadays white, heterosexual men, I'd consider it an ENORMOUS step up in civility, equality and fairness towards all.

Im a liberal (moderate) and love this movie and almost every Mel Brooks movie made. And it sucks we will never have a movie made like those ever again.
