The last season

If I remember correctly, the oldest daughter went to college and the next oldest was married. Nell and Addy and the two brothers moved to New York. Rosie O'Donnell lived upstairs. The youngest daughter was still on the show, at least for a while. I used to love this show when I was a kid, but stopped watching early in the last season because Joey Lawrence and his brother were so annoying to me.

I seem to remeber an implausible episode where Matthew gets separated from Joey and everybody is freaking out. Turns out he wandered into a Steeley Dan-esque rock band's rehearsal space and starts jamming with them. COME ON!

Yes, she tried to but wasn't able to. Then she tried camping outside his hotel room to wait for him to come back but she fell asleep. He saw her there and put his jacket around her. When she woke up, Nell just happened to be there and thought she slept with Andy and rushed her home. The Chief found out she was out and had Andy arrested but everything got cleared up in the end.

The last season is rather strange , you can see that Nell was not enjoying it as much either ,she was as good as usual but if you look closely there is something missing. I dont mind Joey , I loved the character since season 3 and he had a great chemistry with Nell but adding his little brother to the mix was a bit much and it spoiled that special relationship he had with Nell , the younger brother was absolutely unnecessary.Rosie O' Donell was not very good and she had absolutely zero chemistry with Nell , it feels like they did not like each other very much.None of the new characters were interesting or endearing and the move to New York really changed the vibe of the show and not for the best.
Love season one to five but season six is hard to watch all the way through without squirming a few times. -

What happened was the producers decided to change the show because the girls were growing up, plus, the actresses' contracts were up (usually they run five years). I think doing this hurt the show because now it wasn't about Nell being a housekeeper and mother to a widower's daughters.

Woah!
Yeah, the Lawrence kids - who weren't bad child actors - didn't really mesh with the show. Joey starts out all right, but by the final year it's all about them and the writers were out of ideas anyhow
Other shows managed to survive without lead characters, but without the chief "Gimme a Break" just didn't work. -

TV-One has the last season episodes on now, its just weird to see where this show came from to this last season iteration. The changes were immediate and abit drastic. Joey was clearly getting too old. Also for some odd reason they turned Nell into a real moron. Like initially she was always right just abit abrasive, but in the final season they made her a well meaning dummy. That just isnt her character at all.

They should never have moved the show to NYC. Like there aren't enough sitcoms that take place there? Anyway, the final season no longer had the Chief, Simpson, the daughters, just Nell, Addy, Joey, and Grandpa, with new characters. It wasn't the same and the one hour Sam Goes to College should've been the series finale.

Well, they had Addy accept a teaching position in New York and Nell decided to go with her, taking Joey with her. I think they just decided to change the show and since the girls were all grown up anyway, it wasn't a problem. Katie moved to San Fransico to work as a buyer, Julie, Jonathan and their daugther moved to a place off campus, and Sam went to college in Jersey.

I just discovered this series a couple of months ago and I agree, the only good thing about the last season was Nell's mom.
