Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Gimme a Break!

I am watching a 1961 film called THE YOUNG DOCTORS tonight. Dolph Sweet is credited as a police car driver. It's his very first screen appearance.
In the 70s he played a police chief for five years on the NBC daytime soap 'Another World.'
Then in the 80s, he finished out his career as the chief on 'Gimme a Break!'so we can either say he was incredibly typecast, or else he was just plain good at these kinds of roles and born to play them.

Hello, again. In regards to that, since he was this heavy set NY character actor, the role of cop just fit him. I play a cop a lot of times in community theater myself.

That's a great comment Steve. Thanks for sharing.
In the movie THE YOUNG DOCTORS, Dolph doesn't come on till the very end. And he's much younger but the voice is an instant giveaway.

Here's another cop role he did: He was the Sheriff in the film version of Finian's Rainbow.

I didn't know about that. Interesting!

Well, of course he is much younger! It's an older film. Same thing with Finian's Rainbow in 1968. Look on here for his credits on TV and film. He had a good amount.
