              Interesting observationgiven the prominence of the movie 2001 at the time.and his having worked with Kubrick in StrangeloveI can easily see him picking up Hal's traits.

                  Yes, indeed. There are several references to "2001" in this movie; did you observe the red light dot on the TV, when it activates the alarm function in the very first scene?

                    How about in the beginning 2 jazz versions of the famous classical songs are playing that also played in 2001, (in the beginning and when they first go to space i believe). (I forgot the names, sorry)
