Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — You Can't Do That on Television

Ross, the producer of the show, played by the late Les Lye, I don't remember him ever getting slimed or soaked from saying the magical words, "I don't know," or "water," but recently I stumbled upon some youtube videos that have multiple scenes of him getting repeatedly slimed and soaked. So does anybody know what that is from? I never did see him get slimed or soaked when I was watching the show.

The "You Can't Do That On Television" wrap parties were the stuff of legend and quite notorious for that sort of thing. Not only were people getting slimed and soaked, they were also getting bonked, toasted, clobbered, oft-considered, wind-jammered, jan-hammered, spadoinked, cajoled, teetered, tossed, fadoodled, brackishly bridled, catnipped, lozenged, influxed and pepper-sprayed. The latter, of course, was certainly a "before it's time" occurrence, that managed to arrive right on schedule. The grate Kermit Schaeffer wrote a rather racy novella, which is the nearest thing next-to-impossible to find, based upon these particular extravaganzas and other backstage, off-camera tom foolery, entitled "What You Couldn't Do On Television, You Still Can't Do (But, You Can Read About It All In This Here Book!)," printed only twice by Tamley Publications.

even though i'm answering a post thats 4 years old 🙂
there was an episode that i recall that ross had the kids dressed up in some really fancy clothes and going to have them do stuff that they really didnt want to do, like going to some stupid museums or something along those lines, the kids were going to protest the entire thing and ruin their clothes by saying in unison; "I dont" then ross tried to stop them by screaming "NOOOOO!!" since ross completed the line, he was the one slimed. then the end credits started rolling.

Lolthere was another episode as well. There was an episode where there were tons of owners to the show. Every few minutes, there was another new owner. Well just over halfway through, Ross was the new owner. He made their lives heck as he was having them slimed and drenched for no reason at allother than his own satisfaction. But at the end, he had lost ownership without realizing it. They asked him what he planned to do next to themhe said I guess I could have them soak you with more water" and then it came pouring down on his head. All were surprised and they asked an incredulous Ross what happened to which he replied "I don't know!" and then came down the slime. It was a double hit on him and it was a satisfying show in that regard 🙂
I miss that time back in the 80's. I always hated school and the feeling of reservation going back, but this show made for a nice little escape.
