I saw this at the AFI(DC) at a sneak preview with Michael Ritchie. He said the first time it was previewed the audience laughed so hard at one sight gag during the wedding scene, nobody could hear Reynolds and Clayburgh's dialogue in the last scene. The dialogue was removed but restored when ST was shown on network tv beause the gag had to be cut out. Ritchie was was right.
Neil Simon said mcuh the same about The Odd Couple's biggest laugh("You leave little notes on my pillow") when it was trying out. The audience erupted and wouldn't stop laughing. Matthau walked off to get a glass of water, and, when he came back, they were still laughing.
