My biggest concern if you want to call it that is that it would immediately and rather cynically be written off as just another "white savior narrative" a la the movie
    The Blind Side
(which is also about a ne'er do well white family "rescuing" a poor, virtually orphaned black kid).

You would have to made it edgy in some way. For the time DS was made it was a different topic.
So today you would need to mix it up
1/ Wealthy Muslim man/woman adopts 2 non Muslim kids, maybe even Jewish ones.
2/ Wealthy Black man/woman adopts 2 poor white kids.
The problem of course is the kids wouldn't be able to make any racial comparisons because now they wouldn't be black.
Sometimes a movie or tv show plot is so stupid that only the stupid can understand it.

Nah, you keep Mr. D a white guy, but make him particularly clueless so he can be whitesplained to. The kids you definitely make muslim, so they have to teach Mr. D all about prayer rugs and haram and stuff he doesn't know (he's so ignorant) and they have to put Kimberly and the maids in burkas.
You have many question, Mr Sparkle. I send you premium answer question, hundred percent!

Kimberly in a burqa until it comes time for her to educate the boys in "marital matters" anyway.
