Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Sorcerer

I realize that the place they're at is pure hell. I don't think any movie has showed such an uncomfortable location…
But obviously, these fellas are there for a reason. They had nowhere else on Earth to go…
And yet they are dying to get the money to leave…
If they leave, wouldn't they then be in the same danger of being killed as before they came to the one place they paid for for safety?

In Wages of Fear they spent much more time showing the dreary lives they led in the town. Sorcerer spent too much time showing each character's backstory so it seems like they have hardly spent any time there. Wages of Fear didn't spend any time showing backstories. As for why they would want to leave, I guess they were not the kind of men who were apt to live a settled life of safety.

i think Sorcerer is far better. i think they spent tons of time in the town and I have never, ever experienced a location as hellish. in Wages of Fear it just seemed like a place in a black and white movie.
it's okay to disagree. both are cult classics. it's not like I'm preferring the CGI 2017 remake if there were one. digital trucks.
but my original question was why they wanted OUT so bad.
the hit man was the weirdest. he gets there, a place he went to deliberately and flashed his cash around… but also the minute he lands he wants a plane back out.
i see what you're saying about the original in the town though. it seemed more genuine like they were more a part of it while here they're very reluctant visitors, for a reason, it's hell.
but wanting out so quick… weird……
