    The Orca or Richard Harris?
I could ruin this film with spoilers, so I've deleted everything I've just wrote there.
Basically, who was the bigger "bad" guy and who was the "good" guy? Thanks there!

I'll try to make this easy for you: The whale is obviously a terrorist and has suspected links to Al-Qaeda. Its pod is actually a sleeper-cell working with Bin Laden to subvert the marine world's freedoms. Either you are with the whales, or you are with us!
"Rooting for"? Is this a football match? The world is not always so black and white as to wrap up individuals in "good" and "bad" guy packages. This film somewhat reflects that condition of life, and it has you confused. Wow I'd hate to hear your response to a film with more than a touch of depth.
I recommend you go watch Jurassic Park (hint: the dinosaurs are the "bad guys").

Technically, in JP, the humans are still the bad guys as the dinosaurs are just being dinosaurs. I mean, none of the dinos went against mother nature and brought back an extinct species and put them into a zoo for entertainment.
Btw, I'm just having a laugh so don't this comment seriously.
Just my one cent since I can't afford two.

Nobody, there are no good or bad guys in this movie, it's just a tragic movie.

Well, I'm still in the first scene - 30 min mark - and Charlotte Rampling (whose character represents scientific knowledge) and Will Sampson (whose character represents native wisdom) are both telling him what an idiot he is, so we may feel a twinge or two for Harris, but already I know he's a deaf fool who gets what he's got coming to him.

Definitely not Richard Harris. I started out rooting for the whale, but he turned into an a$$hole too, so nobody to root for in this film.

Ha! I was always kinda partial to the crazy Vietnam vet character myself, "I think you are gonna hire that guy!" and the English perv Niles Standish, "Betty, I could get you on the guest list. How does that sound?"

I've always maintained this movie is a reverse Moby Dick. A man harms a whale and the whale spends his life trying to get revenge against the evil man, but in the process the whale becomes the very monster it's trying to destroy.
Of course Nolan doesn't put up a fight, he lets himself be killed because he knows he's in the wrong, so he's not really that evil.

I'm sure this movie was pitched to Paramount as, "It's
