self-conscious and trying to be risque when it's not. I am not saying this in retrospect; I was there when it 1st aired. Harris reminds me of a housewife who thinks she's wordly, but isn't..but doesn't know it.

'The OP's username is self explanatory'
'I've seen him trolling on many boards.'Of course. It's to describe people like you who attack a person who doesn't like a show. Do you even know what simpleminded means?
You are immature and rude. -

I didn't attack you for not liking a show. I told the other poster you were a troll because it's true. You've been trolling many different boards for years. I've seen you on different boards and trolling is all you ever do.
To "attack" you personally I would have had to have actually responded to you. I was responding to the other poster and informing them you were a troll.
And before you start in with "I'm not a troll", you know anyone who clicks on your name can go to your post history and see your troll posts, right?

ah..that's like telling the other poster that you are liar..but "it's not attacking you"

No, not right. You specifically bothered to tell the other poster I was a troll due to my topic about SOAP. That is not trolling.
Hate to break it to you, but SOAP is not some classic, iconic show like All in the Family or I Love Lucy, where insulting those shows would be trolling.
What is a troll to you? Very convenient word. Trolls do not have serious discussions on actors/films like I do,which you never bothered to read.
Well, you know what, I deem you the "troll" then, and we can allow that also.
You're playing word games. -

So if I say I don't like a "classic, iconic" show, then I'm a troll?
What idiotic logic is this?
I'm not a big fan of 'I Love Lucy' so does that make me a troll? Its called an opinion. People like different things.
It's making silly, stupid, begging for a fight statements, that make a person a troll, not disliking something that's considered iconic. -

Actually, many entities disagree with you.
Soap
is an iconic and set many firsts. First openly gay character (OK, second 1972 Peter Panama on
The Corner Bar
was first), first show to have a
Viewer Discretion Advised
label, first depiction of impotence, first series to cause stock divestitures of the broadcast network by large holders in protest, first series to be condemned by the Catholic Arch Diocese and the first time a memo was leaked about how the studio's tried to control a show's content.
Not sure if these were firsts but 20 of ABC's 175 affiliates boycotted the series and people were marching in protest in the streets.
It was a pivotal moment in gay rights advancement.
It ranks in the top 100 of four industry lists:
Writers guild lists it at #96 in 2013
Time's top 100 many years including 2013.
Newsday #83 show that changed television.
Entertainment Weekly has it at 45
If Hulu would get it into their line-up it will get over 5000 votes and get in the IMDB top 500.

'I hate people who think they're smarter than everyone else yet don't know the difference between fair and fare.'
I do know the difference, I mistyped.
And I hate people who accuse others of feeling more intelligent(makes you appear insecure) because their opinion rubs them the wrong way. Not liking this show has nothing to do with intellect or lack of it. If you can't handle criticism of this show or La Harris, that's immature of you. -

You may have disliked the show, to each his their own, but surely you don't expect us to think this show wasn't controversial at the time. I wasn't old enough to watch but I remember hearing my mother & her friends talking about it and it's shocking content. Definitely in retrospect it's not cutting edge we've seen gay characters & gigilos and such but late 70s early 80s these were not everyday sitcom fare

I don't agree with the OP's opinion on Susan Harris because she was a very talented writer.
This was a good show but I wouldn't put it as one of the all-time greats. Today it is more remembered for being the show that Benson was a spin off of than anything else. -

This show and "The Golden Girls" are still hilarious after decades! I love Susan Harris! ;-/
