Was anyone else sad that he just moved away, and they never spoke again (according to the movie, anyway)? I liked him. I guess her illness was too much for him, though. But to just move away all of the sudden was strange.

He seemed to care for Sybil deeply, so I agree his leaving was very odd. I've never read the book, so I don't know if his character is in it, and what if anything happened to him in the written word.

I imagine he didn't want his young son sucked into the drama especially considering he saw how unpredictable sybil was.
She could be a danger to his child in his eyes.
