    In movies, shows, etc..
Can't these ****ing producers hire someone who can write. Maybe someone who didn't go to some Ivy League humorless **** school?

People have been retelling well-liked stories with variations (or just straight out retelling) since drama existed. It's been going on for thousands of years. What makes you think this would change with the invention of new mediums for story telling?
I mean, I get that this can be annoying and tiring when we want to see something new and original (which, if successful, will eventually be remade itself). But human nature just isn't going to change.
(And by the way, there are more movies and TV shows coming out this day and age than at any time before, and most of it IS original in the sense of not being a reboot or a new version of something else. If you aren't finding something to your liking, you either aren't looking very hard or are just impossible to please.)

I think a lot of it of course comes down to business. For people who don't like "new" ****, they can watch nostalgia, just for the memories.

Well, I think you may be proud of me for a change to my movie consumption habits I've made over the last few years.
Normally my tastes run exactly the opposite of yours–I typically won't watch anything made before 1980. But lately via Netflix rentals and various streaming services, I've been making a point of watching movies from the 1930's, 40's, and 50's to catch up on my movie history, with a huge emphasis on Noir. And I must say I've been having a complete blast!
There's something sort of charming about the Hay's code enforcement in these things (every criminal protagonist must die at the end!), and it was my disgust with the way older movies treated audiences like children which is partly to blame for me keeping away from them, but once I got over my hangups I really was able to appreciate that they were doing their best to be sophisticated given the limitations they had.
My favorite of all these was In A Lonely Place, in part because due to my bottomless ignorance of older movies, I had no idea Bogart ever played a character like this–I thought he was the cynical hero in everything. This was such a pleasant surprise!

That's good to hear. I'm always trying to expand, and I actually do watch a number of newer movies. I'm actually noired out. A majority aren't very diverse, so I try to check stuff out from other countries, or directors who are a little off-beat. I guess its about finding the right director, writer, etc., because the "classics" are the ones that get mentioned and played, but there's a wonderful movie from the 30s I was just thinking about, "La Grande Illusion". It stands on its own. Speaking of Jean Gabin, "Le Jour Se Le Vie" is a unique one. I won't spoil it, but it starts with him barricaded in an apartment, with the police outside, and the movie works backwards.
"In a Lonely Place" is a good one. I like Bogart.
            Have you seen?
-Ace in the Hole (Kirk Douglas)
-The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (Bogart)
-M (watch the original German, its amazing)
These are all philosophical, without getting pedantic. Thrilling, portraits of society (not this 21st century lecture ****), but they're all very different from each other.

Saw Grand Illusion in a film studies class, tried Sierra Madre but lost interest, included M in my recent Noir dive (yes, in German), will try out "Le Jour Se Le Vie" and "Ace in the Hole". Thanks for the recommendations!

                Very cool, and you're welcome.
"The Blue Dahlia" is another good one, but I know I'm forgetting many.

                  "hire someone who can write."
                  ———————————
They actually do hire people that can write.
1 of the Main Problems though is that a lot of audiences (definitely not all of them) are just Way Too Negative and Self-Entitled to give Reboots of anything a fair chance to prove themselves.
Instead, they will immediately start attacking, insulting, and criticizing it the moment that the Promotion for it begins.

For me it all depends on which series is reboot. Fir instance, I watched 10 minutes of that Charmed reboot.🙄
It was just like the original except starting different female characters. They are basically mimicking the original actresses that played the sisters so I'm like, I'll pass on this. Besides, I never really cared much for that show anyway.

The Best Reboot that I myself have ever seen is Christopher Nolan's "
                            BATMAN
                            " Trilogy.
