Yeah, this is another epic film. It's loosely based on Bowie's life. Though I've always believed Bowie just pretended to be bisexual. He was straight as an arrow.
I see the evolution of listenable rock music as glam to punk to new wave. Of course after that great genres like grunge and alternative and all the other pseudo-styles are reworkings of glam, punk and new wave.

I agree, and I think Bowie just ran with the whole "gay" thing because his image lent itself to alternative everything (ie: fashion, androgyny, style, sound, visuals, music). If I'm not mistaken, he even claimed that in an interview he was always straight.
This movie is excellent, and my understanding is that it was essentially meant to be "inspired by the life of David Bowie" but he didn't "sign off" on it, but the similarities are blatantly evident.
I've seen this movie so many times, I can't count. The director played a trick on Ewan McGregor and Christian Bale when they were making out on the rooftop. They were kissing, and the DP filmed, then cut, and never told them to stop!
I think they did the same thing on the movie
