Who did you ring in the New Years with when you were a little kid? I'm old enough to remember Guy Lombardo and his orchestra (which sounded straight out of the 1920s) playing "Auld Lang Syne" at the stroke of midnight in the late 1960s. Then Dick Clark came along with "New Year's Rockin' Eve" for the younger viewers. Lombardo is long gone, and Clark's not there anymore, either, although the "Rockin' Eve" is still broadcast annually. Did you watch these as a kid, or did you have different TV traditions for the New Year? If you were around in the early 1950s, was Times Square regularly broadcast back then? I don't recall seeing any footage of New Year's in Times Square that dates back earlier than the late 1960s.
I'm not crying, you fool, I'm laughing!
