Spacek was born to play Carrie White.
She was cleaned up a bit from the novel, but made the role her own. There really aren’t many performances of this kind that could top it.

So, Toasty, who do you think is a stranger character, Carrie or Pinky?
I think Pinky is much stranger than Carrie, who really is just shy and socially awkward. Pinky is full-blown tootie!
I also think that Pinky is Spacek's 2nd best performance. The versatility she showed as Pinky Rose is truly extraordinary. She also makes me laugh quite a bit as Pinky. Right now, I am picturing Millie asking Pinky if she'd like to see the bedroom and the way Pinky overstates the
"yeah!"
is just so goofy, it makes me laugh. You'd think she'd been offered the moon.
I think it's time for a "name your 3 Women quote" thread.
I would sue my parents if they named me "Pinky".

She most certainly is.
….who do you think is a stranger character, Carrie or Pinky?
I don't see Carrie as strange, just aloof and lost as she was, so definitely Pinky.
I sort of get Pinky too. She was just a nice young girl who grew up kooky because of her kooky weird parents. If they even were her parents and I like that touch of ambiguity.
I actually feel though that Spacek presented more layers in
3 Women
. Carrie blossomed for a moment and then went psychotic, yet understandably, but Pinky is more of an enigma and yet Spacek did her justice.
She was looking for a role model and Milie was it. She was the most perfect person she's met…

I always wondered about those two old people, too. They looked like they were in their late 60s and Pinky looked about twelve. They were so out of it. They unnerved me. Of course, all this fits in seamlessly with the movie.
