This is, without a doubt, one of the worst movies I've ever seen. It's not entertaining, it's not exciting, it's not interesting and it's not funny. There's no story. Just Jack Nicholson and his buddies doing random things. There are no likable characters. I didn't care when anyone died. It's all just nonsense and it's relentlessly boring.
If this had a 7.5 rating I wouldn't care, but this is the 15th best movie ever according to this site. When I see a highly rated movie I don't like, I can usually understand why other people like it, but I can't think of a single think to like about this so-called masterpiece.
I'm rating it 2/10 because I'm not a troll, and because there are worse movies out there.

Every single movie ever made is inevitably going to have some people who hate it. That's the problem with taste, it's a spectrum. Fortunately the odd bit of hate does not detract from the enormous amount of praise and acclaim that a movie like this rightly also attracts. It's number 15 on the top 250 list for a reason. Sorry you couldn't see it.

I rated it an 8. And people get so mad at me for not loving The Godfather, they say I should "stop watching film". A lot of dumdums get mad if you don't like a movie they love. I even was nice and gave the Godfather a 7. I do kind of think if I watched it a second time, I'd raise it to an 8, but I would never think it's the BEST movie of all time.

Haha you and me both. While this is in my top 3 movies of all time. I scored The Godfather a 3 rating. We'd get along well.

The Godfather a 3? Was this before or after your lobotomy?

I'm with the OP here. We just had the horrible experience of having had to get a court order to get my mother-in-law checked in for a 10 day psych hold because she was a danger to herself ("they are going to take my brain out"). I now see not only that this movie was not only utterly unenjoyable, but a deterrence to those who desperately need psychiatric help, as they fear the "evil nurse Cratchet".
And The Godfather and the first sequel totally rocked.

This movie is based on a book that is not about a psychiatric institution in 2015. The novel is set decades ago, when the mentally ill (especially those without financial means) were treated very differently than they are treated today. Put the movie in the context of the time the events occur in the novel, and you might find it more realistic.

                        Agreed. No redeeming qualities.
There are several subjects Hollywood just cannot get right. Mental illness is one and being gay is another.
They're either caricatures or victims - rarely any authentic characters that the audience can really care about!

Respect where it is due. I have been "hated on" for posting dislikes for films that the whole world loves, so you will probably get some nasty sh*t in the future. I personally think OFOTCN is a masterpiece and cannot comprehend why you dislike it so much. I would love to convince you otherwise, but that is not going to happen. Continue to promote your opinions. It makes for a diverse forum.

Every so-called great film will have naysayers. I personally find Taxi Driver and Raging Bull overrated. The Dark Knight is another - I just hated that film, and the rest of the world loves it.

It's unpredictability is why we like it. Most movies follow a formula. Surely, Ratched and McMurphy should've both seen the errors of their respective ways, and then have a romantic kiss.

I thought it was fine. I live in Oregon and it was fun to see the local landmarks. One trivial thing does bother me - when they return from the fishing trip, the fish they are displaying seem to be freezer-burned, not fresh fish caught on the trip

This movie does not do a lot of spoon feeding, a lot of things you have to figure out for yourself. Either way if you don't like it then I guess it's just not your cup of tea but don't say it doesn't have a story.

As you are the sole arbiter of what is good, entertaining, exciting, interesting and funny, the opinions of millions of movie-fans are wrong. Thanks for correcting the error we all made - I'm grateful to you that you are here to set me straight when I mistakenly like a movie that is not to your taste - er, I mean, not good.

While I wouldn't go as far as saying it's one of the worst, I too struggle to see why it is in the top 20 of ALL TIME. I watched it recently and am still trying to figure out why it's held in such high regard. I don't know.
