      Nice review.
This had an excellent cast. I always find it hard to watch as it frustrates me. Good movie, though.

Thanks. Why is the film a hard watch as it frustrates you? I actually gave it a lower rating many years ago because I read the book first and then watched it. There are significant changes, and I can understand why the author hated the movie. Now, I am able to get away from the book by judging the film as it is; it's back to the classic territory. People shouldn't focus too much on the story or how such a mental hospital works. If you compare this to Girl, Interrupted with Angelina Jolie and Winona Ryder, it's clear the performances of the 1975 cast are superior in every way.

I felt bad for the patients and how hopeless their situation was. Also, how McMurohy just couldn’t seem to help himself.

Oh yes, true. Well, I recently watched a movie called Frances with Jessica Lange which is kind of a similar situation (although made-up when it comes to actress Frances Farmer) in terms of medical interventions such as electroconvulsive therapy and lobotomy that went on for many decades. There are small improvements shown in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest but not much. Finally, the last 20 to 30 years have seen tons of progress when effective medication entered the picture, giving many a significant chance in recovery and assimilation into society to achieve a normal life.
The part I had a hard time understanding is the guys checking in voluntarily. But Randle, he was looking for an easy way out which ultimately resulted in the loss of his spirit. That's why the Indian had to kill him. Then again, why didn't Randle escape already when he had three chances to do so?

Those are questions I’ve pondered, and feel that Randall had limitations on making good decisions.
I saw Frances, and two other movies about her. She was treated so badly, and her mother was just awful.

Did you see the TV movie starring Susan Blakely? That's the only one I've seen about her. I think it was titled "Will There Really Be A Morning?"
Her mother was a real piece of work.

Yes. There were 3 movies made around the same time. They were all very good. I think her mother was the mentally disturbed one.

Actually, the part about Frances' mother was made up. It's been debunked. See the following link:
