I like Simon Brimmer and the scenes set in radio play studios.
I have developed a greater appreciation for radio plays ever since I started listening to them a couple of months ago. I heard a few of them a few years ago, but now I try to hear several per week. Hundreds of them are posted on
    archive.org
, most of them recorded in the forties and fifties. Some were written by mystery authors directly for radio (especially by John Dickson Carr). Some are based on novels/short stories, adapted for radio. Recently I've heard a handful of radio plays which are based on movies. Some examples: Laura, The Spiral Staircase, The Best Years of Our Lives, The Strange Love of Martha Ivers, Pitfall.
Quite a few Ellery Queen radio plays are available on archive.org, including a number of EQ minute mysteries.
The scenes set in radio play studios, and especially the episode
    Miss Aggie's Farewell Performance
, are a great reminder of a very popular form of entertainment which existed at one time.
Thanks to the show's producers for making Simon Brimmer a character in this series!

In Seattle where I live we have a Seattle Mystery Theatre Radio Group who will do these programs live on the air. They even have a sound effects guy who makes all the needed sounds from everyday random items. They do a show every year around Halloween! So much fun to watch it live!

Wow! Sounds neat! I haven't heard of anything like that in my neck of the woods (Edmonton, Canada). I think most people in my part of the world tune into the radio to hear the hockey games (if the games aren't aired on TV) or to listen to country music.
