Sorry you feel that way. Watch "Bowling for Columbine" much?
You do know that he marched for civil rights before it was "fashionable" to do so. And, that he was the leader of a labor union that was pushing for workers rights. Nah you probably didn't.

I met Charlton Heston three times. It was absolutely incredible meeting such a legendary individual. He was very kind and gracious. He certainly was not a gun nut. He just had a strong belief in the constitution. He put his career on the line in the sixties to march with Martin Luther King. A great guy who I am thankful I had the opportunity to meet and a great actor who can never be replaced.

I agree with Jack 296, Charlton Heston is one of my all time favorite actors. I so remember seeing him march for civil rights in the 60s. And I also agree with him not being a gun nut. He headed so many films with all star casts. Then in the 80's he turned to television to star in the Dynasty spin off Dynasty II-The Colbys. It was such a pleasure to see him on a weekly basis. There will never be another actor like him.

Whether he was a "nut" depends, of course, on your definition of "nut." He was the President of the NRA, so obviously gun rights were a big focus of his life.
Yes, I was aware that he marched with Dr. King. It's a shame that he became such a reactionary later in life. I'm not just talking about his advocacy for gun ownership; I read a number of interviews in which he spouted a lot of bigoted drivel that I found very offensive.
But, people are complicated. Heston was a gifted actor who I loved when I was a kid, especially in movies like EL CID and 55 DAYS AT PEKING. And who could forget him as Moses?
I did see BOWLING FOR COLUMBINE and I thought Michael Moore treated Heston shabbily. Under the circumstances, with Heston's cognitive abilities in decline, it was a bit unfair. I liked the movie overall but I felt sorry for Heston.
We report, you decide; but we decide what to report.
