Have never watched all of this film, saw parts of it, including the ending with the black windmill, when I was about 8 or 9 on TV back in the late 70's. I was asleep on the sofa while my parents watched it hence the reason I only caught bits of it.
So looking forward to seeing it fully for the first time. -

Yes I rather enjoyed it myself. On the whole thought it was fairly good. Makes a nice change to see something that's plot driven rather than just relying on CGI and big bangs like many espionage thrillers do today.

I think this movie is criminally underrated. The cast is incredible with two of my favourite actresses (Delphine Seyrig & Janet Suzman) shining all the way through. Delphine has never been so deliciously nasty and Janet's trademark intensity gives a lot of power to her character's drama. Caine is the ultimate in cool (as usual), Pleasence is wonderully comic and you can hardly go wrong by casting Vernon as this kind of evil mastermind. The entire showdown at the windmill is a truly masterful sequence. So is Tarrant's escape. Siegel is very neglected anyway: "Invasion of the Body Snatchers", "The Beguiled" and "Charley Varrick" are cinema at its very best.
Oh, and this movie made me discover my Delphine. That's probably another reason I have such a soft spot for it.
