So, the bad guy decides to test Steve's strength by having several guys attack him. Given that he's outnumbered, and he should know he'll probably have to face them again later, shouldn't he try to disable them, such as a bionic kick to the kneecap, or snapping a guy's arm, instead of just throwing them into the bushes (loved the sounds the black kung fu guy was making, LMFAO)? I know it's nitpicking, but I always think about what I would do if I was in his situation.
Also, when the guys try to run Steve off the road, why is it that Steve's car as the steering wheel on the right side, like they have in England, apparently, but the bad guys have a car with the steering wheel on the left side, like in America? Do they really have both kinds of cars in Austria?

I can't speak to the steering wheel thing, but the first one is easy. It was TV. It was somewhat kid friendly. Steve Austin was the hero. The hero does not go around bionically crippling people, no matter what.

IMHO, there are far too many flubs, and cheesy dialoguein scenes to vote it one of the best, but it's definately a guilty pleasure. The battle scene that I used to think was so cool, now makes me wince. "Wooooaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh!" LMAO! Gotta love Pierre!

The Black henchman was a black belt in Savate, which is a martial art that involves kicks. All that Steve had to do is brek his leg when he tried to kick his head. There wer three guys. Mathematically he could have just given hmself an advantage.

The level of "Bionic" ability revealed to others was governed more often by the necessity of pulling cool stunts for the audience and the ability of the writers working within the constraints of budget, I suspect. It's a TV show, there are other reasons like budgets, shooting time, availability of props or stuntmen, ability/schedule of prop masters and budgets of props, etc. that would have in part governed which scripts even got selected let alone specifically how they got executed or when changes or rewrites would have been necessitated due to budget, etc.
That said, let's forget reality and assume you're Steve Austin, a Top Secret bionically enhanced operative, who also happens to NOT be totally invincible or bulletproof, facing a bunch of armed guys trying to determine your capabilities while you're still attempting to protect the man whose brilliance saved you from an existence you fully consider worse than death. Have you never heard of the strategy called "Playing Possum"? If the very existence of your bionic limbs is rated top secret, why give away any more or even more accurate data than you must to accomplish your objective? Toss 'em around a bit, enough to impress and convince your captors you're worth keeping around, and then fake an injury to keep it believable and angle for a better set of circumstances than being guarded by guys with long range weapons you cannot easily overcome while protecting another
If this were for real in any way, shape, or form, don't you think the tests regarding your abilities might have been a tad more scientific than a wee staged donnybrook which might just reveal more about your fighting abilities and style than your bionics? I enjoyed the episode, don't get me wrong, but the "engineer" in me would have loved to see a bunch of improvised bionic stunts just about as much. The reason we didn't get that has to do with not pinning down exact abilities and strength levels too closely so as to not interfere with future plot developments in the series or constrain the character.
But, you say, "wait a minute -he already revealed considerable bionic strength ripping off the steering wheel to two of the bad guy's operatives" Well, sure, but they're at the bottom of a chasm along with a car with no steering wheel likely with bigger problems or no more earthly problems whatsoever (actually, I think they were in the hospital according to the show)
My point is why give away more than you need to unless you can ensure you can successfully break away at that moment and maintain the safety of your friend and ersatz mechanic? Bionics or not, enough bullets and you are DEAD. Too big a show of force and you may concern them enough to do away with you and learn what they can from an autopsy.
That's my story, and I'm sticking with it -at least until a better one comes along! -

A couple points: Given that it was a kid friendly show in the 70s, rather than showing graphic violence, show Steve shoving a bad guy sideways into a wall, the bad guy grabs his arm, runs away, gee, his arm must be broken. Throw another bad guy onto a table, he grabs his knee, limps away, gee, his leg must be hurt. Imply substantial injuries that would keep the bad guys out of the fight, but don't traumatize the kiddies.
In another episode in season 1, the head bad guy is a scientist who is aware of Bionics, as theory, guesses that Steve is indeed bionic, and Steve readily gives him info about his abilities
Bad Goy: How fast can you run? 30, 40 miles per hour?
Steve: 60 miles per hour
That would have been a case of don't let your enemies know what you can do, but Steve seemed ready to chat all day about his abilities. I'm exaggerating, but I think it's a valid point.

The episode in question is "
Population
:
Zero
" the first regular (non tv-film episode) of the series. I agree Steve or anyone who is bionic or knows about it should keep quiet in these types of situations.
