Two things I've heard about the man. That he was taken to a good hospital, and that Pauline (his wife) was taken to a poor one that time she went with him on a call one morning and the car was ambushed. Also, a friend of mine told me once that he saw a "20/20" segment years ago about Bufford where some folks in his town criticized Hollywood for the making of the movie, stating that:
"That damned Hollywood, they made a hero outta Bufford Pusser, when he weren't no more that a (bleeped out) s.o.b bully."
Any one here that can deny or verify any or both of these statements? Just plain curious.

Alot of the people in Mcnairy county did get upset with the producers for shooting most of the film in neighboring Chester county. Not only did they feel it was a slap in the face not to film it where it happened but they also lost out on the money being spent by the producers.
As for Buford being a bully, You have to take into account the kind of place the State Line was back then. If you walked into one of the clubs there and they didn't know you, There was a good chance you were going to get robbed and your ass kicked before you left. At the restaurant there, The owner, Louise Hathcock was notorious for using a ball peen hammer she kept in her apron to rob travellers as they ate. While the gang may have owned the clubs at the State Line, Most of them lived about six miles south in Corinth MS. where they pretty much stayed out of trouble and with Alcorn county being dry at the time, Alot of people appreciated that they could run up to the state line to get a cold beer so it's safe to say they weren't hated and feared by everybody. In the end, There are always going to be those that say Pusser was just as much a bully as the gang at the State line but as rough as it was back then, Showing any kind of weakness was a sure way to get yourself killed.

Many prostitutes are forced into the profession, and are actual slaves to their pimps. See anything wrong with that? I sure hope so.

She had her head blown off. Why would it matter what hospital she was taken to?
