Lure Buford to the club with a robbery, then shoot him when he walks in?
First of all, why the robbery? Why not just phone him and say all hell is breaking loose, or maybe even "We need to talk"? Or just shoot him some other place?
How was she planning to justify cold blooded murder?
I understand this, or something like it, actually happened, so what was she thinking?

Yes, it was indeed a clumsy plan. However, she had finally hit her limit with Buford's little crusade and was obviously very very drunk. There's a certain fission point when the right amount of booze meets the right amount of anger or frustration, and that's where Callie was.
Was it bad writing or good writing of a bad decision? I favor the latter myself.
At present nothing is possible except to extend the area of sanity little by little.

Thanks Lupis, that seems a good summation. Rarely in a movie do we see the dumb decisions that people make in real life - they're too prosaic, not cinematic enough - so I'll go for good writing too!

Lupis hit the nail right on the head. It was apparent throughout the movie that Callie had a serious drinking problem, and she was intoxicated that night at the Ridge Club. Drinking and rage can be a very dangerous mix.
