you know, most people despise remakes. they give them no credit because its not the original. and of course no one could ever truly do better than the original. but most people dont take into consideration that most remakes are from films that were made over 30 year ago. today when people watch these movies, its hard to get the same scare if you were to watch it for the first time when it first came out, just cuz u can tell how fake it is.
personally i enjoy remakes cause not only do you get to watch a movie that you enjoyed 30 years ago, but you get to see it with todays technology and also you get to see the story through someone elses eyes.
im not saying that this movie will be anyway better than the original, i mean you cant top george a romeros work.. thats like illegal 🙂
but i am excited to see this remake. when i first saw a trailer for it, i was like OMG and i immediately started following the movie and counting down the days til its release. it may be amazingly excellent, or suck a big one, but i dont care. i love the original and am very excited to see what happens with this one.
plus it has timothy olyphant in it and i like his acting xD

        agreed
the trailer for the remake of Clash of the Titans has me (almost) crapping my pants 🙂 I adored the original and the remake looks the business 🙂
a lot of remakes can be brill - i dont agree with shot for shot remakes (a la Psycho) but re-imaginings can be great - and some can be terrible - i think u just need to be open minded
Of course if they redo The Colour Purple i will go on a murdering spree 😉 lol

It's the main movie I'm looking forward to this month - it comes out in less than 2 weeks (on the 26th)!
I'm not always a fan of remakes, but some films seem to be able to stand up to it better than others, and I feel like this was a good candidate. I love the original, but the 2010 "Crazies" still looks pretty awesome in its own right. I just hope it lives up to its potential!

I'm a huge fan of the original, I'm going to burn in hell, because I usually despise remakes. Let's face it the vast majority are horrible. With few notable exceptions, The Thing or more recently The Hills Have Eyes, but this actually looks like it's going to be one of those exceptions. I can wait for it to come out.

Well, while I realize it's a completely different production, I had a lot of fun when they remade Romero's "Dawn of the Dead". So I'm hoping that maybe THIS Romero remake will also be one of the exceptions to the "remake rule" - so far, the trailers look great!

Me too, I was surprised I liked it so much, The original is one of my favorite films (Dawn of the Dead). I watched the first 10 minutes of the film (remake) on that USA special commercial and it convinced me to go and see the film. It has some flaws, but all and all a great popcorn film.
Did you see that piece of crap, 'remake', they call 'Day of the Dead'? It's actually one of the worse films I've ever had the displeasure of watching. I, sincerely, doubt that this remake will sink to the level of that film.
Here's hoping "The Crazies" remake is as fun as the "Dawn" remake!

It looks like "The Crazies" remake might be taking a lot of cues from the "Dawn" remake, actually:
                  http://www.totalfilm.com/reviews/cinema/the-crazies-2010
I thought it was interesting that the very first thing the reviewer mentions is that the movie opens with a Johnny Cash song, almost like an homage to the "Dawn" remake that opened the same way.
And the 4 out of 5 stars rating is certainly encouraging as well!

DOTD remake was straight to DVD. The Crazies has a big budget and is a serious flick.

You're thinking DAY of the dead, which did go straight to video. This thread is referring to DAWN of the dead which was a pretty big movie.
Anyway, I just got back from seeing it and really enjoyed it.

I haven't seen the remake at the moment, but either way, a lot of remakes from campy movies in the 70's in particular usually end up a LOT better then most remakes.
Although with horror it's a coin toss usually. They can ruin a movie trying to turn it into something else much easier with them seemingly.

Unfortunately it sucked. How come the army didn't send more than one reconnaissance helicopter? How stupid is walking down the middle if a main road when you are trying to avoid the army?

I saw the remake last weekend, I found it to be a bore as compared to the original film. The characters were weak, the story was even thinner and they completely ignored the arc of the first film which included the Army. A HUGE disappointment, because the story had such promise at the beginning of the film and proceeded to fall flat!

Yea I like the original more good remake tho, I was a bit disappointed I told myself this will be a great remake and like i SAID IT WAS GOOD 2010 version lacks fun and better characters. Romero did a better pacing job and the characters had a cheesy but real feel to them long live the classics!!!

I just watched the remake, and I think it's total garbage- 3/10. It's a completely generic, by-the-numbers, predictable horror movie.
The original, otoh, had elements of horror, but what I felt made it brilliant and interesting was seeing how the military is completely unprepared and unable to quarantine a town that is infected. The military is good at fighting wars (well, most of the time), but quarantining a town is not at all what it was designed for. I loved seeing all the bureaucracy that slowed everything down (eg, the voiceprints), the confusion, the soldiers not knowing what their mission was, etc. Great movie, 8/10. The remake completely removes this element.
Also, how about some creativity with the people who go CRAZY? In the original they're not all just killing machines. Remember the lady sweeping the field with her broom?
Goddamnit, I had high hopes for this, but they really screwed the pooch.
                                    /rant 🙂
