I read the plot of this movie and was wondering. Is this story connected in anyway to Escape from New York? There is a scene where all those people called "the crazies" come out of the sewer. Plus I remember hearing that in the story that Escape from NY is based off of the whole reason that the area became a prison is because of the "crazies". Apparently a whole lot of people were infected by somekind of virus and the city became unfit to live in.

I don't remember EFNY making any referces to a virus. Also, 'The Crazies' doesn't take place in NY.

If I remember correctly the Escape From New York novelization does mention some sort of biological weapons being used which led to most of the citizens exposed to it going crazy. That was part of the reason New York was turned into the prison. But the reference in the movie to "The Crazies" I think is John Carpenter's way of paying tribute to George Romero, much the same as naming one of the characters in the film Romero.
