David Cronenbergs 1977 movie Rabid was kind of similar to the Crazies wasn't it ?

I have always thought this, I enjoy both films a hell of a lot but Rabid has a bit more to offer.
Perhaps it is easier on the eyes to watch Marilyn Chambers writhe on the floor in pain than watch to Vietnam vets shoot helicopters with hunting rifles.
There is a similar social commentary but I think Romero hits the point more with The Crazies. I do not think that The Crazies remake failed for its social commentary.

"Rabid" was indeed quite similar and much better made.
