I had heard negative things about this one from some movie books (I think even 'Easy Riders, Raging Bulls') but MAN this has great photography and its very stylized (i always prefer that, when a new world is created rather than playing the Simpsons game of pushing the audience to go 'i know where that is!'). And this makes Five Easy Pieces look like a hash-inspired road picture (in fact, the director of THAT one gave Nicholson different drugs before each scene, depending on what mood they wanted him in). So I'd say this is the one director Bob Rafaelson should be known for.

Well, it was stated in a book (maybe its in more than one) called Easy Riders Raging Bulls, a book Nicholson said he didn't read because he doesn't read fiction, some clever quip like that. But I believe it, it was a year after Easy Rider, and his eyes are red a lot in this.
        No turn of phrase.
