In 8th grade math, we successfully got the teacher to postpone a test by one day saying nobody would study, we'd all be watching the final episode of MASH. She agreed and put the test off by one day. The only other time I remember "real life" interfering with school was when Reagan was shot and we were told to spend the rest of the day in the classroom we were in and to go home at the usual time. Always felt jealous of the kids in P.E. or at lunch because I was stuck in ecology class.

I was in the eighth grade when the finale came on, too, so we must be the same age. My dad and I watched it together. I can't remember ever getting out of school work for a TV show, but in the military, you sometimes get out of work for Super Bowl Sunday (or Monday, depending on where you are).

My late wife and I were both nurses and working the 3-11 shift in our respective jobs, so both of us requested the night off. We went out to dinner, came home and put our little girls to bed, then sat down with our drinks and snacks to watch the finale.
We had no idea we'd be able to watch it a decade later on VHS then DVD any time we wanted.
Grandma & Grandpa voted Republican until the day they died.
        Since then they've voted Democratic.

The school's I went to were really bad and the teachers would often show us films instead of teaching us.
I saw Poltergeist in Primary (I think that is Grade school for Americans) as well as some Bruce Lee films and plenty of others.
In High School I managed to miss seeing Dirty Dancing by cutting class.
Sometimes a movie or tv show plot is so stupid that only the stupid can understand it.

The movies they showed us in school were intended to be learning aids. Sometimes, they had to stretch to find any relevance in the movies they showed.

I remember they discussed the series finale of MASH on The Simpsons.

From the Simpsons episode (don't know if this is the one your talking about but still a MAS*H reference). It was the one where multi-millioniar Artie came back and was going to give the Simpsons a certain amount of money to take Marge away for the weekend (ala Indecent Proposal). Homer lets her go with Artie in his private helicopter. As they take off we hear Suicide is Painless and see a message written in rocks, left by Homer, on the front lawn. It read:
                KEEP YOUR PANTS ON

I was actually referring to either And Maggie Makes Three or Lisa's First Word where Marge talks to her and Homer's neighbors they had before moving to Springfield and she asks them something along the lines of "did you see the final episode of MASH"?

Woman on porch: (With Irish brogue) Oh, that Mike Farrell is one hot potato.
Does this sound like the one?

The episode was “Lisa’s First Word.” When I first saw that episode, I never saw one episode of MASH (I was three years old when the final episode premiered, and ten when “The Simpsons” first premiered). I finally started binge watching MASH on Hulu when I found out that September 17th of this year was the 50th anniversary of the pilot episode. Finished it in 30 days (last Sunday). When I first saw that “Simpsons” episode, I thought Marge was referring to whatever the most recent episode of “MASH” had aired (“last episode”). I didn’t realize she meant “final.” Secondly, as I was familiarizing myself with the cast of MASH, I could’ve sworn it was Alan Alda who Marge’s friend was fawning over. IDK I guess memory weirdly recalls her Irish accent saying that name instead of “Mike Farrell.” Finally, Chris Rock had referenced MASH while hosting “Def Comedy Jam” around the time that O.J. was acquitted, which was Rock’s material, “I ain’t see white people this mad since MASH was canceled.” Well, I am black, so I guess I’m the first to watch that show… or am I? My mom is black and white, and my dad is black. But I never met my dad, and my maternal grandfather (who is black), died before I was born. So I only knew my mom and her mother. Is it shocking that I watched MASH? 🤷‍♂️ 🤔 🧐😂
