I'm not sure if I should be proud or embarrassed…

that I recognized the bits of Karlheinz Stockhausen's Hymnen in this film. For those who aren't familiar, it's an extended piece of electronic music composed in the mid 60's. You hear a little bit of it at the very beginning of the movie, and there's one or two other examples heard in other places of the film too.
At any rate, I used to borrow the old double LP copy of Hymnen that our public library had and listen to it when I was a teenager. It was one of the first examples of "serious" electronic music (not counting synth pop or "dance" music) that I had heard. -

It takes a director of the caliber of nic Roeg or Stanley Kubrick to use brainy modernist musicians in movies.
I've thought for ages Steve Reich would pop up on soundtracks but he never has. Philip Glass does all the time but he's no longer the daring enfant terrible - not sure if he ever was. Some credit should be given to P T Anderson for some of his recent soundtracks. Webern would be great in some soundtracks too - some of his shorter pieces are essentially 'stings'.
