I've seen this movie 20 times and the thing that still has me confused is when, near the end, Valdez says he knows someone is out there. The girl asks who and Valdez says what sounds like Herr Segundo. I know its suppose to be El Segundo, but I listened many, many times and it still sounds like Herr Segundo. Anyone else hear this?

Just watched it again tonight, had to rewind that scene a couple a times just to check. Lancaster says El Segundo, but with his crappy Mexican accent he's really punching his H's at the beginning of sentences. He does it through the whole movie.

Yea,that about sums it up. I've seen this movie a dozen times and you would swear he's asking for "400" dollars the first time he requests the amount for the widower. Like you said it's his crappy mexican acent, although if you want to see another one, catch Paul Newman in "The Outrage"

Regardless of the character's name, I thought actor Barton Heyman did a great job as Segundo. He's unrecognizable (in terms of appearance, demeanor, and speech) compared to his usual Caucasian roles. Of course, why not just hirer an actual Mexican.
