I've often wondered about that myself. I mean, I've heard of a lot of different things over the last thirty something years, but "button-freak" was a new one for me, too. I'm gonna go google it and see what I come up with. If it's anything interesting, I'll let you know.

Ok, a check of google (including web sites and groups, etc.) produced nothing. All I found were a bunch of needlework sites. lol Sorry I couldn't help. Maybe someone else will come along and have a clue.

good question! my immediate thought was drugs, maybe peyote buttons. i always remember in the anonymous diary, "go ask alice",(which came out in the early 70's, i think?) they play a game & say, "button, button, who's got the button?" & that's the person(s) in the group who got the button/drug put in their drink.
i know, i have a strange memory, do not know why i remember that? it's just a guess, tho' -

You made me curious. If you Goggle 'Button Fetish' you get a whole world of navel fetish sites. I suppose you would find sub-categories and sub-sub-categories of that too such as gay navel fetishists and it all gets very depressing.

OK, all these years later, I'll take a shot at this. I think "button freak" does indeed refer to old-fashioned ladies undergarments that featured lots of buttons to unbutton. Sort of like asking someone if they liked fishnet stockings.

If people are still wondering: a button freak is someone who cannot resist a "do not". Like: a "do not push this button" warning, will have the opposite effect on this person and trigger him/her to push it.
Never heard of that fetish.
But it's nice that the poster adapted its username to the thread.
