Great film, crap actresses!

Despite the dire 'acting' skills of the five actresses in this otherwise great film, I still love it.
Why weren't better actresses employed for this big budget film, when they afforded Caine, Hendry, Osborne (actor/author) and others? These gormless and dour women (with crapper accents) could well have ruined the show. -

How were the actresses'accents "crap"?
I don't know the Newcastle accent so were their accent incorrect?
Newcastle in the late '60's seemed to be a downtrodden place untouched by the economic gains enjoyed by the South. -

Well, Margaret's accent dodged between geordie, Yorkshire and God knows what
Edna's was good, even though she is a Scottish actress, I guess.
Doreen barely spoke, but was an awful actress.
The wild tart who was crammed into the sports car boot, a Scottish actress, did a dire Geordie or posh English voice.
