If you don't think it's funny, then nobody can explain it to you. Humor is very subjective.
PS I think the TV Show was funny, but the MOVIE was HILARIOUS!

I've always found it annoying as hell and rarely funny. Though set in Korea, it was obviously supposed to be an anti-war statement against the U.S. invasion of Vietnam.
But of course the liberals are portrayed as snarky heroes, and the conservatives are portrayed as bumbling fascists. It was purely and simply liberal anti-war propaganda and it took itself too seriously to be funny.

Yes, it could be entertaining. But I just had a visceral dislike for Alan Alda's wiseass character. Like I said, it took itself too seriously.
