I found the scene where the prisoners of the gestapo nobly forgo the last cigarette which they all crave. It was interesting as proof of nicotine addiction which the public was unaware of in those halcyon days before people became aware of tobacco's side effects (emphysema, cancer, et alia). Back in the '60's when I was a student at Harvard college, one student routinely blew smoke rings in my freshman seminar and nobody objected. I even carried a pack of Gauloise (de Gaulle's brand) to offer my date if she needed to light up. Years before Nader raised a brouhaha about an airplane passenger lighting up in an airplane seat next to one without any reprimand. In those days, smokers' rights outweighed non-smokers' rights.
