The 4 sequels were pretty crappy, you have to admit

The original film is great, but damn all the sequels were incredibly disappointing. I just finished watching the entire saga on blu-ray. I got the box set on amazon when it was on sale for $19.99.
The films themselves feel incredibly dated and the sequels are so mired in the early 70's time period. It was quite obvious that the political issues of that decade carried over into the film. It was laughable in many regards. Escape from Planet of the Apes was particularly horrible.
This is a saga that you'll only want to watch one time. The original film warrants multiple viewings but the rest of the films are crap. -

I certainly do think that none of them touch the original, but I can find something in them, despite their limitations, that I can enjoy on some level. They do have the feel of being attempts at trying to cash in on the unexpected success of the first film, but even so I also feel that despite the cheaper nature of the sequels, the writers did attempt to keep to maintain the political and downbeat nature set by the first film, which should be commended.
Battle is my least favourite of them all, but even that has its moments that I can enjoy. Even the "bad" parts to me are endearing in a quaint sort of way.
As much as I can understand the limitations of the sequels and your disappointment in the drop in quality, the term crap is a bit harsh, IMO. Then again, maybe it helps that I was brought up in the period where shoddy special effects weren't really considered a damnation of the story.

Dude you are exactly what is wrong with the IMDB as$holes acting like your opinion is gospel, telling people have to admit your point of view is correct is condescending. I like all the apes films, yes the original is the classic and by far my favorite film of any of series including the new one's. I can't go to one board without a user acting like a arrogant idiot with no justification for their point of view
Critics are worthless, formulate your own opinion! -

Dude, it's all opinion, and opinions are like as$holes everybody's got one and they all stink. We all care about the correctness of our own as$holes, but they still sometimes stink.
Such is the reality of living on the planet of the human apes. -

I don't have to admit any such thing. Battle for the Planet of the Apes is the only weak link and that still manages to be entertaining. Escape from the Planet of the Apes was doing something fresh for the series, my only complaint about the movie would be the implausibility of Cornelius, Zira, and Dr. Milo repairing and piloting a spaceship. Their society didn't even have automobiles or electricity.
I guess you think your opinion is the only one that matters, but many more people would disagree than agree with you.
My favorites,- Planet of the Apes
- Escape from the Planet of the Apes
- Beneath the Planet of the Apes
- Conquest of the Planet of the Apes
- Battle for the Planet of the Apes

Beneath was very weak but had some good moments, Escape was actually pretty strong (even if it was contrived and basically a reversed remake of the original), Conquest could have been awesome if they had given it a budget to work with and Battle was just plain bad. Obviously none of them compare to the original though.

Even seeing them as a kid I was disappointed in the sequels, which increasingly trivialized the original story. The original film was a sophisticated social satire. The sequels introduced very obvious and heavy-handed themes alluding to race and class that really betrayed the larger themes in the first film. Of course the budgets shrunk as the series went along too. They're not the worst on a Saturday afternoon, just for the hell of it, but I think of the original film as standing alone. There was also a TV series when I was young, and I can't even remember much about it, except it didn't last long. Obviously the studio milked the franchise for all it was worth, per usual. I have to say that despite the advancements in special effects, I concur with most that Tim Burton's remake was absolutely atrocious.

"Escape From The Planet of the Apes" is on Par or just below it with the original. It has its Cheesy Moments. But it really shows the strength of Cornelius and Zira Relationship. But Really i Enjoy most of the Films. Most of them are Better than the Tim Burton Remake. If i had to Rank them it would be.
Planet of the Apes
Escape from the Planet of the Apes
Conquest of The Planet of the Apes
Battle of the Planet of the Apes
Beneath The Planet of the Apes -

It also doesn't make a lick of sense, since:
a) The apes who in the first film where baffled by Taylors paper plane now somehow managed to retrieve taylors rocketship, repair it and take off in it??? And also travel back in time???
b) Cornelius' tale about Aldo, the first ape who said "no" to humans is nonsense! In the first film apes never knew that humans once where able to speak and where the dominant species!!! -

I never thought the sequels were "crappy". Yes, they could've been better if Fox had invested more money in them, but Fox was still recovering from a near financial collapse they had experienced in the 60s.
None of the sequels are as good as the original (they rarely are), but I was enthralled with the first two sequels that aired a couple of months after the first one on CBS in '74 (I missed Conquest and didnt think Battle was quite as epic). -

No, I won't "admit" anything - because I don't agree that the sequels were bad. I think all the sequels are underrated, and these days as good as the first film is I actually prefer watching the sequels. Whenever I have a "Go Ape!" marathon watching all five movies, I can't wait until PLANET ends and we get to the sequels. I do feel PLANET is technically the best, but it's just more played out for me than the other four.
