Watching this movie with my son on THIS TV. Is it just me or is the Peter Sellers character a lot like Rowan Atkinson's Mr. Bean character?

I know right? When I saw Bakshi trying to dry off the painting in the bathroom, it reminded me of the first Mr. Bean movie which was basically about wiping a painting.

More like both of them are like Jacques Tati's Monsieur Hulot's character

I definitely get a Bakshi vibe from the character of Bean. Although I had heard that Jacques Tati was a major influence on Rowan Atkinson, I didn't realize until I saw "The Party" that Peter Sellers had to have been an early inspiration as well.

No, both Mr. Bean and Bakshi were inspired by the same comic actor, Jacques Tati.

And all three owe a nod to Buster Keaton.
