Don't get me wrong, I think they are both great. I think although that they have a big minus comparing to other comedies with or without Jack Lemmon !
Both of the movies start very funny and make you laugh in every way you can with Jack Lemon being awesome and incredibly funny. Then at some point they get really serious and even dramatical. They try to be funny again but wether they do it succesfully or not you are in another mood now. That results in having an hour or so of GOLD comedy and some drama moments. Don't get me wrong i like drama movies and i think Jack Lemon can pull it very well. But he is incredible in making people laugh. Why ruin that? Does anyone agree with me?

No, I don't. I like that both have elements of seriousness to them, and that both are satirical (or black comedies) and not farces, like Blake Edwards's films.
If you're looking for laughs only, probably you should be sticking with something like
      Airplane!
. I say that not to be insulting to you or to
      Airplane!
      because I love
      Airplane!
, but in watching it I don't ever have to worry that it is trying to be serious.
