I was watching this movie again last night and was thinking what a great actor George Segal is and how many good movies he was in during the 1960's-70's. This role as the detective was one of his best.

Am in 100% agreement with what you state
George is and has been a fantastic performer over time, this being one of his major performances
Additionally
If you have never heard him on the banjo you have really missed something.

Segal's long been one of my fave actors, great at both comedy and drama. Just saw this film on the MOVIES channel, and I stuck with it to the end, because it's that good, and creepy. And Rod Stieger (another talented actor I like) tears it up as the psycho killer, adopting so many personalities to the point where you're wondering, "Who the hell is this dude?" Also, Segal's character was so laid back, clumsy and kind of cute in this thriller-another underrated film from the late '60s. It's been cool to see Segal still going strong in the current hit series THE GOLDBERGS,too.
