i think Steven Spielberg should remake this in the tone of Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers with the bleach bypass effect and the grittiness of combat.

No, no remakes, ever. Make something new. There were at least 950 bazillion incidents that made up WW2. Plenty of subject matter to work with in other words. Pick something else.

Much as I hate remakes, this is one story that should be fixed:
No red berets
No invented capture of a German garrison in their underwear
No "Devil's Brigade" name since it was never really used
Skip all the silly bits inserted for comic relief
Get a better tech/military advisor for all the Canadian parts
Show the Force's history beyond Monte la Difensalike Anzio for example
The list goes on -

I just finished reading Robert Adleman
s 1966 book; The Devils Brigade and while I came across at least 4-6 vignettes that were parlayed (albeit somewhat differently) in the movie, I totally agree a newer version needs to be made in much the same way as James Cameron attempted with his 1997 Titanic as compared to its 1953 predecessor. But I feel a newer version could also; possibly, highlight more of the FSSFs other missions as well as some of their other escapades aside from Monte la Difensa as depicted in the 1968 movie with William Holden. And although there were some light-hearted comedic lines during the 1968 movie, none came close to many of the stories or vignettes in Adlemans book which would bring a light-hearted air to a newer version if done in a simular fashion as Saving Private Ryan. I also feel Tom Hanks would be the perfect actor to portray LCT Robert T. Frederick if a new movie on the FSSF were remade.
