I was working at a summer job in Dorset, when the local 'premier' of this film was shown at the tiny Bridport Fleapit, which was full-up and a lot of people standing. It was hilarious because the crowd kept shouting out when they saw somewhere they recognised, or spotted extras they knew. Some scenes had been filmed in the vicinity. I regret I never got to meet Terence Stamp myself. The fact it was filmed in Dorset clinches it for me thoughbest Thomas Hardy adaption by a mile.

a similar thing in the town of Crickhowell south wales. The annual fair was in the market place and a scene was shot with terence stamp , in his uniform, throwing balls in the coconut shy. Also there had been filming across the Llangattock mountain side. The population turned out to the local cinema only to be disappointed as the entire scenes remained on the cutting room floor.
