Anyone Else Think of 'Damn Yankees'?

Okay, just puttin' this out there I waited for YEARS to see this movie, and finally did (kudos to my public library). I enjoyed it and thought Rock Hudson was actually pretty great, although I got antsy during the hippy-dippy Gathering of the Naked Grape Stompers. The point was made in that scene, a bit laboriously, methinks. However, at one point it occurred to me that the plot was an awful lot like "Damn Yankees," with Frances Reid as (again) the wife, and Salome Jens as Lola. Of course, there are the sci-fi differences, and the ending is just a teeny-weeny bit different. But did this come to anyone else's mind? I'd really like to read the novel. BTW, I had long admired John Randolph, and once in the '70s saw him briefly during the winter holidays in Manhattan, in a fur coat and hat, and he seemed to be with family. I just looked over and smiledI'm sure it was him. Also, I thought Will Geer was just terrific! What a face! The way he could express such a sinister character hiding behind kindness was second to none!

Have to admit, never saw Kagemusha (did see other Kurosawa films) or Professione, aka The Passenger, which, now that you've brought it to my attention again, I'd really like to see. I agree with your comment about lots of movieshey, did you ever see "Dave," with Kevin Kline? Saw it a long time ago, thought it was pretty funny. But it was especially the "setup" of Seconds, with the wife at home and the "temptress" in the new life, that reminded me of Damn Yankees. I keep going back to Seconds in my mind as one of the best "sci-fi" or "dystopian" films I've ever seen.
BTW, curious about whether you liked The Passenger. Don't want to know more about it than I do, but wondering if you give it a thumbs-up.

Hmmmdid I like
The Passenger
? It's been a long while, but I don't think that it's left much of an impact on me. I
think
that my reaction was something like, "That was a lot of trouble to go to for not such an interesting story."
Incidentally, the tv series
Orphan Black (2013)
takes the whole "steps into another person's life" to new extremes
