I had never heard of this movie before. I was looking for stuff to DVR over the holidays and I saw this on Retro or Retroplex or something and it sounded interesting, plus I would watch anything with Jimmy Stewart. But it was so long I didn't want to commit to watching it. Then, when I finally did start to watch it, I was surprised at the stellar cast.
I thought, wow this could be really good. And it was. The length was fine, it went by fast and held my attention the whole way. You could never make a movie anything like this today, they would CGI it to death.
I had to watch it all on headphones, because everyone else in the house was asleep, but that was OK, with no deep bass or 5.1 sound, it worked out really well.

      Hi Tony,
Welcome to the FOTP club. One of my faves also.
For who would bear the whips and scorns of Hollywood (;-p)

It was a great cast and a story that was long but it held your attention.

This was probably Jimmy Stewart's last great movie.

I saw it when it first came out, as a kid, and remembered it as being good.
Then a few years ago, I saw it was being shown on TV, and within a few minutes realizing that this is not just little kid good. This is adult good.
Great drama, incredible cast, intelligent entertainment.
