Her name was actually Margaret and she was called that by everybody she knew. I don't know where the "Molly" part came from.

I work there, actually.
"Molly" was invented by the person who wrote the musical. Our reasoning is he did it because Molly rhymes with more words than Margaret.

Although, if I am not mistaken, she was called Maggie, not Margaret or Molly. Molly was definitely safest!
