Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — The Unsinkable Molly Brown

    novastar_6 — 16 years ago(July 12, 2009 09:56 PM)

I know a lot of people adore "I Ain't Down Yet", and even Gale Storm, may she rest in peace, adopted it as sort of her own personal anthem and she did play Molly Brown on stagebut my favorite is simply "Belly up to the Bar". I love the music but can't find the right keys on my piano to play it like she does.

"He's My Friend" and "Belly U to the Bar Boys" are my favorites. The Gennaro choreograhy for each are amazing.

I agree with "He's my Friend".
"We don't use the word 'insane'. We prefer the term 'mentally hilarious'".

"I'll Never Say No," "Soliloquy," or "Belly up to the Bar, Boys!" Probably the first. NOT "He's my Friend," which inspired some fun choreography, but is really annoying as a song.

I actually think that as a musical, this film is very weak. I don't like the songs much, except for Colorodo, My Home, and the score in the first half of the film. But, I thought everything in the second half was blah.
Please excuse typos/funny wording; I use speech-recognition that doesn't always recognize!

Yes the songs are forgettable. Most good musicals spawn a song that becomes a standardeven ok ones, think "That Old Devil Moon" from Finian's Rainbow.
Rogers and Hammerstein it is not.

I like Old Devil Moon but it somehow doesn't fit in with the rustic quality of the other songs from Finian's Rainbow. Songs like Look To The Rainbow and How Are Things In Glocca Morra have had their fair share of air play over the years. So I don't consider Finian's Rainbow an one-standard musical.
As for this Molly movie I can't remember hearing any of the songs before. All of them are forgettable indeed.
