This is the first episode of the second season. The intro has been tweaked, and the music has changed. I like the changes.
A crossfire of future energies accidentally transfers two warring soldiers into the far past, 1964 to be precise. The first one to arrive is captured after a struggle, and a philologist
(language specialist)
is brought in to help understand who he is, and where he comes from. Later the second soldier appears.
This episode is written by Harlan Ellison, and stars Lloyd Nolan, Michael Ansara, and Allen Jaffee. It's one of the better ones. It was also one of the inspirations for James Cameron's
Terminator
franchise. Ellison sued Cameron for stealing his idea, and won.
Rating: 3 1/2 Zantis

PS The alien's helmet was later used in
Mork and Mindy.

PS And yes, I realized you were referring to
Terminator.

— 3 years ago(December 22, 2022 05:26 AM)Very good and very ENJOYABLE!! Even though it's about TIME TRAVEL, I'm NOT sure how close it's to
The TERMINATOR
!
CYBORG 2087
(
1966
) seems CLOSER to me.
IS this the episode where they CONFUSE
solarsystem
(AKA
starsystem
) with
galaxy
?

Apparently it was, cause Ellison threatened to sue, and Cameron settled out of court.
I just learned this from our old friend Google. And yes, they were a little weak on the concept of the solar system.
And speaking of
Cyborg 2087,
how the hell did they talk Michael Rennie and Warren Stevens into being in this cinematic turd?
(5.2 on IMDb)
Did they just need a paycheck?

I'm NOT sure how close it's to The TERMINATOR!
The opening scene of both Soldier and The Terminator visually bare striking similarities. Story similarities aside, it is hard to believe James Cameron's protest that he was not at least influenced by the episode. -

The first half of the episode is great where they try to understand who the soldier is. The second half where the scientist decides to bring home this dangerous killer to live with his family, including two kids, is a bit silly. What could possibly go wrong?
If the soldier looks familiar, it could be because he is played by Michael Ansara who also played Commander Kang in Star Trek's "Day of the Dove."
